It has been a couple of very very busy weeks since I took the keys to my new apartment. Sort of a shame that the immense pleasure I'm feeling for having this place has been delayed by busyness . The last couple of days I have been doing the good work of setting up my place. I've ordered a 'net connection (AT&T U-Verse), and I understand this can be frustrating getting it up and running. I have sorted through a bunch of moldy wet things I had in a not-weather-proof storage, and done all the disinfecting and discarding. Now I am down to boxes, and my things, mostly clean and ready for me to put to use and put in their new proper places.
It feel like a significant win to just have my things all together under one roof, and access to my things at my own schedule. Simple, but it is powerful refreshing change from my old status quo.
Having a place, and a project of turning it into a comfortable home, has me thinking more expansively. Fitness, socializing, career-building, hobbies, fun, growth, and a bunch of others seem like they are possible. It feels good.

yes, it is easier to branch out once you have a solid home base. Now don't get *too* house happy, like I do. Turns out (weird thing) *thinking* more expansively is not the same as *living* more expansively. Your advice to me is still the best I've heard on this subject: Don't promise yourself you will run 5 miles every morning. Just promise to put the running shoes on every morning.
You have absolutely read my mind. I've been very happily housebound for most of the last three days. It is an indulgence that I'm allowing myself, but your words have helped my be clear that it is indulgence not a new norm.
Thanks, good luck, and lace 'em up for me!
OK been lurking, following your blog. Extra room mate on sofa all day long reminded me of Steven Wright's part in the movie Half Baked. Glad you got past all that! Also glad you survived the Mexican bike journey. Presume you were wrapped in Kevlar throughout. :-)
Stay dry! You're getting what would usually be our rain. El Nino sucked it South..... Sorry!
